Advanced Manufacturing
Manitoba has one of the most diversified Advanced Manufacturing sectors in Western Canada and Winnipeg is one of North America’s most cost-competitive locations for manufacturing.
This is due to a highly skilled labour force, among the lowest published electricity rates in North America, competitive manufacturing tax credits, industry led research collaborations and a robust transportation and logistics infrastructure, KPMG ranked Winnipeg as # 1 as the lowest-cost location for aerospace manufacturing out of 22 cities in North America.
Manitoba’s advanced manufacturing aerospace cluster includes Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 companies, as well as suppliers of sub-assemblies, components and specialized services. Capabilities include:
- Precision machining and fabrication
- Climate controlled and lights-out manufacturing
- Additive/digital manufacturing
- Robotics and machine learning
Winnipeg has also been selected to host the National Research Council’s new Advanced Manufacturing Research and Development Facility and is home to the Composites Innovation Centre, Precision ADM’s Advanced Digital Manufacturing hub, and Red River College’s Technology Access Centre for Aerospace & Manufacturing.
