An Introduction to Vision Applications in a Robotic Environment
At its inception, vision in robotics almost exclusively used a two dimensional camera to guide a robotic arm to a final position relative to a known fixture. Today, a vast range of vision ‘sensors’ provide an economical way to not only guide a robotic arm in two or three dimensions, but also provide sorting and inspection services within a single system.
Vision guided robotics allows for fewer part fixtures, higher part quality yields with less scrap, and fewer tedious or repetitive tasks for the operator resulting in a safer workplace.
